Storage guide adhesives and joint tapes and compounds
The importance of stocking in the right place
Correct storage of adhesives or joint compounds is important in order to:
- limit environmental risks when handling chemical engineering products
- ensure that the products are stored in the right humidity and the right temperature throughout the shelf life
- maintain the products' technical performance
- keep the packaging in good condition (e.g. stacking two pallets can damage individual packages)
How are joint and sealing products best stored?
In general, the best storage temperature is between 5° C and 25° C for all illbruck products and, if possible, avoid large temperature differences.
Some jointing and sealing products are more sensitive or need special storage conditions. See our guide for guidance:

- cartridge / bag / bucket / bottle / cartridge with putty or glue

Storage of water-based products
The best storage temperature is between 5° C and 25° C.
A water-based product is a product that contains a proportion of water. These products tolerate low temperatures less well and should generally never be frozen (with exceptions). In most cases, the product may lose some of its performance or the product may be destroyed.
Depending on how long the product has been stored, separation may also occur, therefore it is necessary to re-homogenize the product before use to dissolve the solids in the solution. This phenomenon is most common with liquid products.

Storage of solvent-based products
The best storage temperature is between 5° C and 25° C.
The storage location needs to meet certain criteria related to the safety of products and people:
• No heat source nearby
• Separate space in a non-smoking room
• Clear, easy-to-read labelling
• Partitioning of storage space
• Safety procedures to prevent products from falling, low storage areas, handling with care
• Keep containers in good condition, not rusty, not damaged..

Storage of joint and glue in cartridges or in foil
The best storage temperature is between 5°C and 25°C.
Long-term storage at high temperature may affect the shelf life, which, depending on the product type, will affect the life of the product.

Storage of joint and multi-purpose tape
Joint and multipurpose tapes are pre-compressed on a roll. The belts try to regain their nominal thickness (before compression) and keep a permanent pressure on the roll protection strip/liner, so it is IMPORTANT to store the rolls HORIZONTALLY to maintain their shape.

Although it is the storage temperature that determines the decompression speed when installing with a joint tape, the storage time also affects its speed: the longer the roll is stored, the slower the product expands.

Tip: To store rolls of joint tape that you have started using but have some left on the roll, we recommend using AB006 illmod Velcro (for TP650, TP652).
Storage of insulation foam and joint foam
Store upright in shady, dry conditions between 10° C and 30° C. PU or STP foam must always be stored in an upright vertical position. Storage instructions are on the packaging.
Horizontal storage usually results in the inability to get the foam out of the can, even after the aerosol has been shaken vigorously. If you hold the spray bottle incorrectly, you run the risk of only spraying out the propellant instead of the foam.
IMPORTANT: You must keep pressurized containers such as foam sealant away from all heat sources! The ideal is a cool and ventilated room.

When storing pressurized vessels and flammable products, we recommend always reading the safety data sheets.
Also use: FIFO method
The method of inventory management according to the FIFO method: first in, first out (First In, First Out) means using the oldest products that enter the warehouse first. The method makes it possible to use the products within the shelf life and avoid throwing away unusable, "forgotten" products.
